Blog Response #2

Choose a character from your book.  How do you envision this character?  Use your words to describe how this character looks, acts, and behaves.  Also, discuss the impact this character has had on the story up to this point. Would you be friends with this character, or would you avoid him/her?  Why? What role does this character play in your book?  If this character was not in the book, would the book change?  Why or why not??  (Remember to give  specific details  and a complete blog entry, and  don't forget to comment on  two  other blog entries!   Happy Blogging! :)

  1. The character I can easily picture is Jennifer. In my head she is taller than most girls and she is muscular from playing basketball. She acts very kind but also shy at school because she feels awkward around guys. The impact Jennifer has on the story affects Dillon the most because they have a good relationship. I would be friends with Jennifer because she seems like a very nice and caring person who wouldn't judge others. I don't think the book would change that much without Jennifer because the author doesn't use her as a main character but rather just another person in the book.

    1. Jennifer is similar to Becky from my book, Running Loose. Both Jennifer and Becky are more athletic girls, and very fit. Becky also has a good relationship with my main character, Louie, but I think the main difference is that Becky is closer to Louie, and is a bigger part of the story, than Jennifer is to Dillon.

    2. I am also reading Chinese handcuffs my imagination of her is very similar to what you thought of her.

    3. I am also reading that book. I chose Dillon to talk about, but Jennifer was also a very important person with a deep truth behind her. At first, she is super sweet and innocent but once you continue reading, you find out more things about her. I agree that Jen has a huge impact on Dillon because he always wants to make things right. Dillon and Jen's relationship is something I hope will never fall apart.

  2. The character I am thinking of is the main characters best friend. Her name is Sarah and she has a very burnt face that is almost completely scar tissue. It is easy to think af a face that would be that messed up. She is in the middle of the main conflict in my story so if she wasn't in it it would be very different. She is a very strong person because she comes from a home full of abuse and tries to cover it up. The reason i picked to do her is because she is the main characters conflict so i though it would be important to talk about.

    1. Sara Is similar to Carter from my book, Running Loose, because Carter is also in middle of one of the main conflicts with his main character, Louie. Without Carter, the end outcome of the conflict would have probably been very different.

    2. My character Walker in the book Stotan sounds similar. Walker is the main character and is in the middle of every situation. Walker is also a strong person and keeps everyone doing the right thing.

I'm reading the book Running Loose by Chris Crutcher, and the character I can most easily envision is Dakota. To me Dakota is a bigger set, tall man, who has a hook hand like the book describes. What I imagine the rest of him looks like, is a softer baby face with lots of facial hair and an eye-patch. To Louie, and as far as I know everyone else, he is an extremely caring person who will always be there for you when you need him. Without Dakota, I believe Louie would fall into a much deeper state of depression, as Dakota seems to be Louie's main emotional support. He has also offered great advice to Louie when he asked for it. If I knew Dakota, I would most definitely try to be his friend, as he is just an overall amazing character.

  4. The character I choose is boomer from running loose. he is a very athletic, and a downright dumb brute. He is the bully always picking on Louie the main character, just trying to make his life harder. He is a little slow and behaves immaturely. Boomer plays a major part in this book because it seems that Louie challenges himself because of boomer to just try and one up him and get better at football. I would definitely not be friends with boomer because all he does is lie and start problems. The storyline would be completely different if boomer wasn't involved. he sort of makes and breaks the football team because without the two football stars carter and boomer the storyline would play out completely different with them not winning the championship.

    1. Just like in your book, Dillon is very athletic as well. He always is running triathlons and some sort of endurance running. Additionally, Dillon does like to start the conflicts in the book as well. He always is the one to push one off the end and start a big scene.

      Delete
    2. Though Boomer was always picking on Louie, the character I picked (Carter) was always there to stick up for Louie and Boomer never wanted to start a fight with Carter because no one knew who would win that fight.

    3. Dale in Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes is one of the characters that starts conflicts with others because he is known as the school bully. He is not a super athlete like Dillion is.

      Delete
    4. Boomer sounds exactly like Dale in my book, Stay fat for Sarah Byrnes. He is a tall and muscular bully. He obviously has the athletic build and is made out to be the scary character even though he is really dumb when it comes to school.

  5. The character I choose is Sarah from Staying fat for Sarah Byrnes. I choose to talk about her because she is a key component to the story. In the book they describe her as a burn victim. All over her face and arms. Before she went quiet she acted as if nothing was wrong as in reality she was living in a very abusive home with her father. She always put on the "tough" act. If Sarah was not in the book their would be no story. She is a key character to have because, she ties the whole book together.

    2. Sarah reminds me of a girl named Jennifer in the book Chinese Handcuffs. She also lives in an abusive household, but she holds a straight face because if she doesn't, consequences will happen. She is a very sweet and nice, but she hides a lot of things from people.

    4. I also read Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes and I agree that she is a key component to the story. I finished the book just yesterday and I realized that she could've escaped that abuse much sooner if someone had just gotten to know her, but only Eric Calhoune (the main character) ever bothered to.

    1. I think Louie and Walker are both kind person in both our stories. but Louie doesn't have family issues, he just lost his girlfriend in a car accident which turn my book 180.

    2. Im reading the same book as you and find Walker a very enjoyable character as well. I think he posses all the good character traits of a friend I would want and I love how he handles himself own his own. He is a great friend to Nortie, jeff, and Lion.

    3. I think that Sarah in my book would really relate to walker. Sarah in my book is abused and gets her face burnt on a woodstove in her childhood. It sounds like walker was about the same way

    4. I feel as I read more comments it seems like all of the books are so similar with a few goodies switched up here and there. Its like they could all be in the same time zone.

    5. The character you describe sounds similar to the character Sarah Byrnes from the book I am reading. Sarah also has an abusive home life and I can also sort of relate to her (less in the abuse sense, more in her attitude and her response to her hardships).

  7. The character I can picture from Stotan is Lion. When i picture lion I think of someone who does not have a single care in the world except for himself and his friends. The way he rides around in his army looking jeep with big fur coats and pilot helmet I think says enough on its own. Lion does not have any parents and lives own his own in a frat pad apartment. Everything he does in stotan is not normal. He is an artistic person and whenever he has a chance is drawing and he seems to keep to himself. But occasionally does very outlandish things like army crawling through the snow or try to jump into a swimsuit and face plant. I think he has a good impact on the story being different from the other characters but one thing all the characters in stotan have that Lion is no stranger to is having each others backs. I think he would make a great friend who would be entertaining to be around and know he always has your back. I think the book would suffer without a character like Lion.

    1. I think your character is similar to Dale from my book. Dale doesn't care what people think of him and he does whatever he wants and bullys his way through most situations.

      Delete
    2. your character lion is pretty similar to my character boomer. Boomer has no care in the world and his parents aren't very supportive. the one thing that is pretty different between the two is you cannot rely on boomer to have your back. he's the bully of my book.

      Delete
    3. I think Lion is determined to make his friends happy by his accomplishments because they are like his second family. The things he does like pushing himself to his limits during Stotan week show that he is still mourning his parents death. I agree that the book would be very boring without Lion, he adds some spice to the book because of his fiery personality.

      Delete
    4. Your character is sort of like Sarah in my book. Sarah is also the type of person that gives off the impression of not having a care in the world about other people's opinions. Which is quite odd giving her circumstances. And a lot like lion, Sarah definitely has her friend's backs. She does not let anyone take advantage of herself or especially Eric.

      Delete
    5. Sarah is exactly like that in staying fat for Sarah byrnes. She doesn't have a care about anything and doesn't talk to anyone about her problems. She only cares about her two friends Dale and Eric and thats the only people she will talk to.

  8. The character I can choose and can relate to is Walker. He is the narrator of the book and is always in the reading no matter what. Walker is a logical thinker and down to earth person. He acts way older than his age and understands what goes on around himself. His parents are realy old for him to be in high school and he does his own thing. He is always willing to help others out. When Nortie hit the kid, Walker was the first person to help him through that. He also helped Nortie get out of his abusive house and let Nortie live with him. Walker does not like his older brother long John, long John is a big drinker and drug guy, Walker does not associate with him cause of that. If Walker was not in the book the story would be totally different and honestly would be a mess. Walker keeps everyone in check. I would be friends with Walker because he is a good guy and I picture myself liking. him.

  9. The character I choose is Dillon from the book Chinese handcuffs. I envision Dillon roughly around 5'10" with a smaller build around 165 Pounds. He runs lots of triathlons, which makes me believe he may have a smaller build. Dillon isn't afraid of anything and won't back down if anyone talks about his deceased brother Preston. I feel like on the side he does have lots of humor in him but hasn't really expressed that in the book. Dillon has impacted the story by defending his brother. Preston was involved in a biker gang and Dillon went to the Dragon, (a bar where the bikers always go to) and tried to tell them they were the reason why Preston died. When anyone talks bad about his brother, he always goes after them first. I would be friends with him because he is passionate about his family and that's also something I value as well. Dillon kind of plays the hero because he is going back to all these places and letting them know that they were the main cause of Preston's death and finishing some unfinished business. If Dillon wasn't in the book, the book would 100% change. The whole theme is revolved around Dillon and how he makes connections with all the people around him, except the ones who made fun of Preston.

    1. I am also reading Chinese Handcuffs and I picture Dillon very similarly to what you described. I think it is interesting that they talk about Dillon being the funnier brother, but so far in the story he has not shown that and has been more serious. Jennifer is also very protective of her little sister Dawn against her stepdad. I think this is one way that Dillon and Jennifer are relatable.

    2. Louie is like that in running loose, he defending a opposing team member cause of his team trying to injure or maybe kill him and Louie was that all about that.

  10. The character I am choosing is Carter from the book Running Loose. I envision this character as a good person who takes time to work hard in his athletics as well as in school. I think Carter is tall, muscular, with short hair. He behave in a way that we all should, he avoids conflict but when he can't he knows how to settle it. He is good friend to Louie and knows what to say to him when he is struggling. He has impacted the story by always being by Louie's side and he is also the starting quarter back for the high school they both go to and when Louie's girlfriend Becky passed away he was always making Louie was okay. I would be friends with Carter because he knows how to handle himself in situations, he gets respects from everyone in the book, he is very kind and sounds like a very good friend to have because he will have your back. I think if Carter wasn't in the book Louie would not have been practicing in the summer for football and may have not been in a good position when the season started.

    1. Carter seems like a very good and relatable friend to have. I think its very key that he has respect from everyone, always knows how to handle himself, and knows how to handle conflict. He reminds me of one of my friends and overall would be a great friend to have.

    2. Dillon from my book sounds identical to Carter in yours. I feel like he will always have your back no matter the situation. Hes done that with his brother and Jennifer so far. Unlike yours though, Dillon isn't really the smartest when it comes to avoiding conflict. He's always the one starting the conflict and creating these big scenes.

      Delete
    3. I think your character is similar to Ellerby from Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, he is a good person and although he doesnt try to avoid conflicts, he knows how to resolve them and doesnt do it for fun

  11. The character I chose is Nortie from Stotan! I would envision Nortie as a shy person who only sticks to himself and his friend group. I would envision that he's a more timid or shy due to his family life. Nortie has had a big impact on the story from keeping a secret from his best friends and then finally telling people, to how his father treats him without respect and violently beats him. The story would be really different without Nortie because of his bond with the main character Walker. If i was in the book i would try to be friends with Nortie because he's a really good swimmer and a good person even with his struggles.

    3. I can connect Eric to the way you have envisioned Nortie because Eric seems to be more of a shy person who sticks up for what he believes and for his close few friends. Eric also has a secret from his friends that are not Sarah because he knows the truth about how she was actually burned. I also find Eric to be similar to Nortie because the story would be very different without his friendship with Sarah Byrnes.

  12. The character I choose is Louie from my book running loose. He is very athletic and down right kind to his friends and family and does the right things than any other characters in this book. his is tall, good looks, and acts very kind to others except for boomer. I would be friends with him cause like i said he is kind, helpful, and respectful to others. Louie is the main character of running loose. And might have little to no change it all depends on Boomer or Carter if one of them change their attitude.

  13. The character i can envision the most from my book is Sarah Byrnes. Her face is very burned up so it is easy to imagine how she looks. She acts tough around friends and people she doesn't know but she really has a lot going on behind the scenes with her dad's abuse. She has impacted the story because she is the main character's best friend and goes through many different conflicts with him. I wouldn't avoid her but i wouldn't want to be friends with her either because she gets into lots of trouble. her role is the main character's best friend and the book would change very much because not much would happen if she wasn't in it and most of the second half of the book wouldn't be there if she wasn't.

  14. The character I choose is Sarah Byrnes from Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. She had an accident that caused her to burn her face off making her look different. It's very easy to envision what Sarah looks like because of how the book described all the scar tissue all over her face. Sarah is very brave and strong especially having a background full of abusive people. Sarah has a big impact in this book because she is in the conflict of my book right now so without her the story line would be completely different. Sarah is Moby's best friend in this book which Moby plays the main character in this story, she has a big impact on Moby also. The reason why I chose Sarah is because she plays a big role in the whole book and without her there would really be no book.

  16. The character I choose is Sarah from Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. Sarah is a strong woman that will put up a fight to help herself and others. She tries to put on a smile around others but in her mind is not as happy as people think she is. I would be friends with Sarah because she needs others there for her as she struggles with trauma from her childhood. She seems as if her friends were in trouble, she would help them out and stick up for them. The storyline would be completely different without her because her and the other main character Eric are the best of friends. Without her I don't know who Eric's best friend would be and there wouldn't be as much going on. Sarah has an abusive dad and without her in the book a lot would be taken out as she plays a major role in the book.

If the group was facing an issue he would be there to help deal with the problem. In a major part of the book where they could have been shot Jeff helped them get out of the situation they were stuck in safely. I would definitely be friends with Jeff because he is a good person to have as a friend and you know you would be able to trust him. If he was not in the book I think the rest of the boys would make a lot of bad decisions and get stuck in serious situations that could end badly.

  20. I am choosing the character Dillion from the book Chinese Handcuffs. I imagine Dillon being a little taller almost like 5'11. His arms wouldn't be that strong, but his thighs and calves would be because of all the marathons he runs. Dillon was shy at first and then he went through his terrible experience with his brother, and I think deep down that completely changed him as a person. Now he isn't afraid to stand up for his brother when people are talking bad. He learns throughout the story that the world is a messed up place so he always tries to make things right. He has been told a lot of things and has tried everything to make things right even though he sometimes goes through the worst times. If Dillon was real or if I was in the book, I would be friends with him. Even if he is having a bad day, he will put everyone before him. If Dillon wasn't in this book, the whole story wouldn't have a plot. It would only talk about Jen. We only know Stacy from Dillon so he wouldn't even know her. It would just be Jen's story.

    2. Yes I would imagine Dillon looking that way too because of the marathons he does, that shape of his body would remind me of the boys from the Disney movie, McFarland, USA. I agree that Dillon has a hard time sharing his feelings but overall is getting comfortable with the letters he writes to his brother, Preston. He does learn that his life is pretty messed up and try's to be "normal" at school but the principal doesn't really let that happen or the kids at his lunch.

  21. The character I can easily picture in the future is Nortie. I envision him as someone who will never act the same way as his dad treated him. In the future I think he will help his mom escape his fathers abuse. Currently Nortie acts very cautious and scared of his actions. He lives in fear because of his fathers abuse and he trusts his swimming group with his heart. He keeps most of the bad things that happen to him inside and acts bubbly on the outside so the boys do not know what he is going through. Nortie plays a huge part in STOTAN!, he is one of the main swimmers that made it to state. If he was not in the book Stotan would be drastically different. Jeff would act completely different if Nortie wasn't around. Walker and Lion would not be getting in fights trying to protect Nortie and they probably would not be in swimming if Nortie was not present in the book.

    1. I agree with you and your description of Nortie because I always imagined him as a shy and scared kid because of what he has gone through. I also agree with you that he is the type of person that will try and break the cycle of his dad, even he feels like he has already messed up.

      Delete
    2. In my book, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, I connect Sarah to the way you described Nortie. This is because i envision her to never abuse anyone the way her dad did to her. Sarah aslo connects to Nortie because Sarah is very cautious and scared of her actions because she has to avoid her father at all costs so he deos not harm her any longer. She also lives in fear of her father because he could easily burn the rest of her body like he did her face and hands. Sarah also keeps the things that have happened to her to herslef because she created a story that she pulled the boiling spaghetti on herself and only Eric and Lemry know the truth outside of herself, her father and mother.

      Delete
    3. I agree that it wouldn't be the same with out Nortie but I think it wouldn't be the same because he is almost a bit of the comedic relief especially him and Lion together so I feel like you would loose that and the sense of family from always protecting him.

  22. I am reading Running Loose and the character I choose is Washington, I envision this character as a six-foot three lean well-built kid who is super athletic. I feel like this person is really quiet unless he is with friends, walks around with perfect posture and is a chill guy. Washinton has made the impact of Louie the main character quitting football because coach had a hit out for him, if Washinton never came into the state of Idaho I believe Becky would still be alive and Louie would have had a great rest of his football season. I would be friends with this person especially if he a new person in a small town especially if he was black and had no one to talk too. I would say this book would change a lot if Washington was not in the book there would almost be no drama at all, and Louie would have not freaked out on a Friday night.

  23. The character I choose is boomer from running loose. he is athletic and also a dumb brute. He is the bully always picking on Louie. Boomer has some trouble at his home life wich reflects on how he acts at school. Boomer plays a major role in this book because Louie challenges himself to compete with boomer. I would definitely be friends with boomer because he does seem cool at some points and he knows how to have fun. The storyline would be completely different if boomer wasn't involved. Boomer makes the book a good read because of his values.

  24. The character I choose was Becky from Running Loose, I envision Becky being the well known girl around the small town that everyone wants in school. Becky i can only guess is the hottest girl in school that can be very laid back and comfortable only if to get to know her. Her divorced father has a big play in her life and made her so strong and independent when she is on her own or with only one other person lie Louie. Becky has been Louie's girlfriend for close to the beggining of his football season to the ending of winter when her story had come to a close. If i had a relationship with Becky i feel we could become close as friends. Becky is an important role to the book and Louie. Beckys role has come to an end am im curious on how the rest will unravel.

  25. The character that envision from Stotan! is Lion . I envision Lion as a tall guy who has brown hair and has muscles. I also envision Lion as a person who seems tough on the outside based off his looks but he is actually chill and a go with the flow person. Lion has had an impact on the story by helping his friends in dangerous situations and being there for them when they needed it. Lion plays the role of one of the tough friends who will protect them from any danger. If Lion was not in the story then I think that Jeff would be the only tough friend in the group and it would put a lot more pressure on him and the dangerous situations that they got into would not have gone successfully as they did.

  26. The Character I chose of the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes is Eric. In my head, Eric is a tall broad, and has a larger build. Eric is a funny guy. He is always making fun of himself. He seems like a really good friend to Ellerby and Sarah which I admire. Eric is the main character and adds a funny touch to the story. I would definitely be friends with Eric. If he wasn't in this book there would be no one to be friends with Sarah and the book would not be as entertaining because Eric narrates.

  27. The character I envision from Staying Fat is Sarah. I just picture a face like Freddy Kreuger when I am reading. I just picture that face with a full head of luscious long brown hair. I envision Sarah as a super tough person on the inside but because of her situation she gets picked on for what is on the outside. Sarah has had a super impactful role in this story as she is the reason that Eric isn't himself as he wants to stay the way he is for Sarah. If Sarah was not in the story there wouldn't be a story at all as she is literally the main character and the character the story is about. She is the mystery in the book as you read to find out what actually happened to Sarah Byrnes.

  28. The character I chose from the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, is Eric. When I picture Eric in my head all I see is this plump, round, stocky kid. He gives off a more confusing vibe. At some points he is very head forward, outgoing and speaks his mind but other times he is the complete opposite. If he was not in this book there would be no way of knowing Sarah's life story and no one to pull her out of the daze she has been trapped in. Eric often reminds me of one of my friends, therefore I would definitely be friends with him.

  29. Chinese handcuffs has many different descriptive characters, but the two I have in mind would be the main characters Dillon and Jessica. Being more of the Primary character of the two the book intended to focus on, Dillon is a very well described character. I could imagine him looking like an athletically built tall-Ish guy with shorter hair. He really likes sports which is why he should be pretty fit. Dillon is who i believe to be the main main character in the book because it has focused more on him than Jessica, and he seems to be a more curved character on him than her. Dillons entire background has changed him in a way and the book follows as he develops from who he was to who he is becoming. In other words it takes place at a very crucial time of his life.

    1. I'm reading Chinese Handcuffs also and I'm starting to enjoy how the characters are changing and not just sitting around being sad because their lives are hard. They are actually talking to people now and trying things to fix what is happening in their lives.

  30. The character I envision from Chinese Handcuffs is Jennifer. I picture her as a tall blonde, tall because she's in basketball. I'm not sure why I picture her as a blonde though. Jennifer has had a huge impact on this story because her past drew me in more than Dillon's and I really feel for her. I don't think I would be friends with her, only because she doesn't seem like my type of friend, she might be too sporty for my taste. Jennifer is one of the main characters and is the other main character's love interest. If Jennifer wasn't in the book it would be so different, and I don't think I would've wanted to keep reading if she wasn't in it. She's my favorite character because I can relate to her the most, I'm not sure if it's because she's a girl too or what. I just know that once her whole past was laid out in the book I wasn't able to put the book down.

    1. Yes I agree on Jen being a tall blonde because she has the vibe for that. And being a basketball player makes even better to picture her in real life. Interesting on how her story drew you in more because it seems like a very complicated story even with her tough past where her most loved person, her grandpa dies and then the fact that her father and step father do to her.

    2. i would agree with the picture of Jen. the basketball helps with it to, and I would agree with her being a little to sporty.

I think that in the future Lion will still be there for his friends as this tough friend, as he is shown throughout the book, because even though he seems not friendly, he actually is and sticks up for his friends when they need it, which makes him create a deep bond with them and he is the type of person that will never let that go after high school.

  33. the character I envision from running loose is Becky. I see her as a skinny tall girl in high school. with long brown hair, it is naturally wavy and natural high lights. she is very pretty in the face and dark complected. Becky gets what she wants when she wants it and doesn't back down until she gets it but she isn't afraid to give up something she loves for someone she loves. the story would change a lot if Becky wasn't in this story. she makes Louie realize a lot about himself. realize the right and wrong. Louie learns what it's like to love someone and feel for something other then football.

  34. The character I chose from Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes is Steve Ellerby. I envision Ellerby as the male version of me. He is very opinionated and always has something to say (even if it is in poor taste). I imagine him as a pretty lean yet muscular guy considering his standing on the swim team. Ellerby has a hot dad with some pretty cool beliefs and (according to my friends) I can relate. He is vital to the story because he is part of the main character's support system through all the drama and provides transportation for the main character and his friend Sarah Byrnes. The story literally could not progress without his car (the cruiser!). I would totally be friends with him because he is my favorite character in the book. He is so sassy and we share most opinions and our friendship would be the end of the world but in the best way.

  35. The character I chose from Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes is Virgil Byrnes. I envision Virgil to be tall with wide shoulders. I imagine him to have a mullet that is all gross and greasy from the lack of washing his hair. Knowing that Virgil is an aggressive person, he acts and treats people with no respect because he believes himself to be better than everyone else. He asserts himself to be somebody you do not want to be around. The impact Virgil Byrnes has had on the story so far is that he burned Sarah so badly when she was three and a half and then not get her medical attention she needed. Virgil went to visit Sarah in the hospitial and tried to get her to snap out of her non-verbal stage; his attempt did not work. I would most certainly avoid him because he is very aggressive and gets upset very quickly. Virgil's role in my book is the abuser to Sarah. If he was not in this book, Sarah Byrnes would not have her scars. If she did not have her scars, the book would be pointless due to her and Eric probably not be best friends because they woould not have a common thing about each other.

  37. boomer is an interesting character he is short and stocky I feel like I'm the same way except the difference between me and him is he is basically the school bully. he didn't have many friends just was the strong guy that hurts everyone. the rolls he does in this book makes the main character show more emotion about how he is scared about fighting him or getting in his face I feel like boomer is the guy that makes everyone feel like crap and makes fun of them for everything they do. this could impact every little detail in the story.

  38. The character I can picture better than others is Jennifer. In my opinion she is somewhat taller than most girls and she has some muscle from playing the sport basketball. She acts a little timid because she feels awkward around guys from the experiences she has gone through. The impact Jennifer has on the story affects Dillon the most because they have a close relationship and Jennifer has no other close relationships with any other guys. I would be friends with Jennifer because she seems like a truly kind and trusting person who would not make fun of or judge others. I think the book would change a lot because Dillon kind of cuts it off with Stacy so he would have no other close characters accept maybe the coach. Plus, Jennifer is the one he talks to and spills secrets and details to piece together the story.

  39. I would describe Preston from Chinese Handcuffs as a some what tall guy who is also very skinny because of all the drugs he uses. He has a huge impact on this story especially on Dillon's life after Preston took his own life. I don't think i would be friends with him because his life just seemed to fall apart and he stopped really caring about everyone including himself. If Preston wasn't in the book I feel like Dillon wouldn't be the person he is today because Preston had taught Dillon a lot of things

  40. I am reading Chinese Handcuffs and the Character I can Envision the most is Preston. The way I imagine Preston is a scrawny kid like the movie or book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He has a broad personality and he caries thought the story even though he is not alive for most of it. Preston acts like he's a big and there's no soft spot to him which concerns Stacy and Dillon. Something that has impacted Preston's life is his motorcycle accident which he loses his legs to it and the drug abuse he has going through him but the day before he commits is the day Stacy tells Preston she's Pregnant. The roles that Preston plays is Dillon's older brother and the kid who committed suicide.

  41. The character I choose is Sarah Byrnes from Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. For me based on the description given I picture her to be a physically fit young woman wo has severe burn scars on her face, hands, and parts of her arms. Sarah is a girl that to an extent hides behind a tough and mean exterior. Sarah is one of the main characters in this book, as such she plays a big part in the story. She is the one that Eric stays fat for and who he wants to stay with. I would be willing to be her friend as she seems to be a good person behind her mask. If she was not in the story, it would simply be about Eric and his work on the swim team.

  42. Dillion Cladwell Is a high school student he is a non-school athlete, so he looks very built for sports but is more on the slim side then on buff. He also has black hair decently tall probably 6' 3. Dillon also has a more handsome face. His attitude is more of an I don't care sort of vibe but still try's to be somewhat kind to people he knows and being an a-hole to people he couldn't care much about. Dillon has spent most of the book in his past with letters but most of his impact in the book was bad so far taking out what hated he has for himself and making irrational choices that wend up with someone hurt and property damage to the school he attends. I would prefer to leave this person alone because it be too much drama for me unless I was there for other moments before all this in his life like he was a friend in elementary or something like it. He is going to be that one person that will understand and be there for Jen because of what each one of them went through he might not be with her in the end of the book but Dillion will be there as a friend and probably be the only one to help her stand up for herself. If Dillion wasn't in the book Jen would most likely have to face all of this alone and never reach out for help and be in an endless cycle of pain and secrets.

  44. The character that I am choosing from my book Chinese Handcuffs is Dillion, he is the main character of the story but is not described much, other than that he is tall, muscular, and has black hair. He is a very stubborn person it seems and he has an attitude on most things. He likes to talk back and doesn't seem to have many friends even though everyone knows him. Dillion has had a big impact on the story up to this point, which should be obvious considering he's the main character. The story really follows him and this girl he likes Jen and how messed up both of their lives are. if i met Dillion in real life i probably wouldn't be friends with him, mainly because he's not much of a sports guy and he seems like he would be kind of cocky and arrogant. I can picture all the scars and burn marks lined across her face. I can picture her face raped in bandages due to the burn marks from the over surface. Sarah has had a big impact on the story. At the beginning it was kind of slow but the farther I get into the book the more I'm learning about Sarah and the crazy events she was put through. I would try to be friends with her and help get justice on her dad for the things he put her through. If I was told the story of what actually happened to Sarah, I would be going to the cops instantly. He is confident in himself which helps him be a great leader in the sports he plays. He is not commanding but his teammates listen to him and respect him. Carter wants a career in sports and he is someone I can see has one not just because of abilities, but he avoids trouble/conflicts best he can and he will help his other teammates. He has an impact on Louie as Louie wants to improve to be like him and have a good work ethic, but Carter also acts like a brother to him by giving advise and trying to help him through problems and even protects him.

  47. The character I chose is Boomer from Running Loose. When I think of Boomer I think of a big guy that is very strong, and loves to play football. If the book didn't have Boomer the book would be a lot less interesting. Boomer is a character that adds a lot of minor conflict to the story and always keeps the reader thinking what he is going to do next. If I went to the same school with Boomer I would try to avoid him because is not very nice and is considered the school Bully. Although the book portrays Boomer as a bad guy, I am glad he is a part of the book.

  48. In the book Stotan I chose the character Lion he is a wild card. lion is very hot headed if something makes him angry he lets it be known typically by doing something about it ready to face the consequences no matter what they are after. he is also a little strange he will dress and act very out of pocket no one knows what he will say or do next. I envision Lion to be a odd ball, dress odd but not care about peoples opinions. He has had a huge impact of being the person in the group who always fully commits to impulsively doing something no matter how dangerous or stupid and the rest of the group typically just follows blindly. I feel like I would be friends with him because he is just himself and he doesn't really care what people think about it. he plays a big role in the book by being the strong morals of the group like if he doesn't think something is morally right he lets it be known and they guys will help do what they can about it. I think without him about some issues in the book I don't know if the other characters would have done the things he did like light news papers on fire.

I would not be friends with max because even though everyone looks up to him I would not because you can only go as fast as you want to go you can not the speed max can go. 1. I agree that tall and skinny fits a swimmers build and I would also not befriend someone who tries to shove religion down my throat constantly.

  56. The character that I choose is Washington. I envision Washington to be strong and athletic man who loves to play and compete in every sport possible. Exciting in everyone that he does. With Washington feeding in at the beginning but then appearing at the end shows his symbol of importance. Leaving Louie with becoming capable of progression and growth. I would see myself becoming friends with him as he is competitive in every way but also a good sport. If Washington wasn't involved in the book Louie wouldn't have had a crazy story for his senior year besides the loss of Becky.

  57. I envision Nortie from the book Stotan. I picure him to be a thin and nerdy white boy. But he has a big heart and he seems like the type of guy I would be cool with. He's a sweet guy who's always a little too anxious, which is relatable. I could totally see us having a lovely and meaningful conversation. He added character to the book and to be honest if he had not been in the book, I would've enjoyed it significantly less.

  58. The character I chose from Chinese Handcuffs is Dillon, I envisioned Dillon to have dark brown hair, be tall, and be athletic. I feel like Dillon has a big heart and wants to help other people out too but he is never really focused on himself because he is always so focused on Jennifer. I feel like Dillon had a big part in the book by being the primary person to be going through a brutal loss of a loved one and trying to cope with it in a way that he doesn't actually have to talk to someone about it.

  59. The character I choose from Stotan! is Norton. I imagine him to have dark hair, not the tallest, and skinny but surprisingly strong. I also imagine him to be a genuinely nice person to talk to. I feel horrible for the things he has said he goes through with his dad and for his brother's passing. This story would be significantly different without Nortie in it. Without him, the guys involved in Stotan week would never have shared the bond they did the the second night.

  60. I would choose Dillion from Chinese Handcuffs. The book didn't describe him that much, but I imagine Dillon as a tall high schooler. It said that he has dark hair. It said that he was a bit stronger, so I think he has a bigger build but not huge. I think that he wouldn't be that big because of how much he runs to train for his marathon.

  61. I read the book Chinese handcuffs and I choose Jennifer Chris never describes how she looks like but I assume she is fit with muscles because she also plays basketball and I say she is also shy because the author says she does not really talk she is more toward the shy part. I would be friends with her because she seems nice and smart the way the author speaks of her. If Jennifer was not in the book it would not necessarily change because she is only brought up when Dillon talks about how she has helped him since they are both best friends.
